We are proud to have taken part in the Renewable Energy Days 2025 conference in Split – one of the most prominent regional events dedicated to the future of sustainable energy.
Organized by Renewable Energy Sources of Croatia (RES Croatia), this year’s event brought together over 400 participants from 19 countries, including 115 companies and 30 institutions. Experts gathered to explore topics ranging from legislative frameworks and project financing to renewable energy integration and environmental protection.
Our director, Dr. Mirna Mazija, contributed to the closing panel discussion titled:
“Developing RES While Preserving Nature and the Environment – Practice, Challenges, and Solutions.”
One of the panel’s key highlights was the launch of new sensitivity maps, developed as decision-support tools to guide the identification of renewable energy acceleration areas. Dr. Mazija shared experiences from her work on bat sensitivity mapping, emphasizing its growing importance not only for ecological consultants, but also for public authorities and project developers.
The panel also addressed several pressing challenges:
- Gaps in spatial planning tools, particularly in continental Croatia
- The importance of integrating sensitivity maps with infrastructure and development plans
- The need for streamlined procedures that still uphold environmental standards
- The irreplaceable role of field research compared to desktop-only approaches
- The urgency of updating species and habitat data to reflect present ecological conditions
Key messages from the conference were clear:
The energy transition is a necessity, not a choice.
Croatia has what it takes to become a regional leader in the green transition.
And sustainable energy development must go hand in hand with nature conservation and practical, grounded solutions.
We’re proud to be part of this vital conversation—and to continue contributing to a transition that respects both energy needs and our natural heritage.
